With his legendary BALIHU label on hiatus indefinitely and his last 12" on Germany's influential PLAYHOUSE label still turning heads, Environ is proud to present Daniel's latest foray into rhythm and sound. "All Flowers Must Fade" stretches its Moroder-influenced groove out over close to nine minutes. Synthetic swells and strings ebb and flow over a funky, sequenced bassline. Singing cowbells and analog toms arrange themselves in a time grid beneath Wang's echoing arpeggios and melancholy riffs - a combination that is guaranteed to move floors. "To Hold You Again" takes you into a disco club in Shanghai. The blinking lights of the skyline punctuate the early morning fog. The idoru plays her vibraphone through space echo as the club fills with bizarre string swells and synthetic murmurs. The drummer and bassist (no doubt on leave from their duties with an intergalactic Salsoul cover band) keep the smoky room swaying. This song is a deep and subtle 4/4 beauty. "Altitude" is a striking little aperitif that sports a cutting bassline matched with a laid-back boogie beat. Electro pulses pop and lock while spirals of arpeggios backspin up through the atmosphere, gelling to create a perfect conclusion to the EP. Keep an eye out for Daniel's new CD album out on Environ later this year! Thanks for reading.
