Gotta say that the Melkweg is one of the finest clubs I ever visited. Particularly impressed by the cinema and the tea rooms-style cafe in there, but I got nothing but good vibes the night I went (Surgeon/Rachmad, 1998). I seem to remember that the soundsystem was pretty kicking too, but that may just have been my 'localised' state of mind!
Also advise you to check out the record shops, especially Rush Hour - it's part of a mini-complex on Spuistraat (I think). The chaps there know their shit alright.
