This may be weird irony, but I was just thinking about this very topic after seeing some headline on the cover of some UK mag and now as I tread through the new Tall Paul mix (it's for work, not pleasure...)
For example, all the Timo Maas remixes of Green Velvet's "Flash" have been getting tons of play on all the new progressive house/trance mixes that have come out the past few months (Tall Paul, Dave Ralph, Scott Henry, Gatecrasher, Deep Dish, etc). The original version of "Flash" fits my original schema of hard house as we define it here in America. Yet these Timo Maas remixes seem to be ultra-trendy with all the progressive house/trance DJs; they have all the gloss and tweaking of trance but without the synths or breakdowns. I can't define what is and what isn't hard house, since it's an ambiguous term, but I do believe that a lot of these trance guys are coming to their senses a bit and getting tired of all the formulaic trance that has flooded the market for the past 2-3 years. I think a lot of them are turning to what's being called "hard house" because it doesn't have as much of the clichéd (aka cheese) stuff that makes so many people dis trance. In other words, it's a safer sound, a sort of compromise between trance and Relief-style hard house. > -----Original Message----- > From: Kyle J Dupuy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2000 10:59 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [313] hard house? > > > > since it has been brought up lately. . is there a general consensus on > what hard house consists of? i've heard it used to describe a > traditionally 'housey' type sound, but more dark or sinister, something > along the lines of what magda and derek plaslaiko spin, and what frankie > bones seems to be spinning lately. then i've also heard the term applied > to a completely different kind of sound, namely that uk, high nrg, trancey > type sound. can someone help me with my genres please. . . piece. > > kyle > > > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >
