Anyone with any interest whatsoever in current Detroit techno owes it to themselves to try and see the CD-ROM (only?) video of "Jaguar" which has just come out on UK split cd single. Beginning with Rolando holding what looks like a Technics 1200 against his chest, the whole thing emphasizes the interface between machinery--cars, bikes, turntables--and the local South West Detroit community. It's a great, uplifting blast of color and movement which culminates with a group of soulful Latin-dancers ripping it up to the track on the streets in broad daylight. The UR crew also makes an enigmatic appearance: a core of dark energy at the center of Jaguar's electric storm. Incomparable. At the risk of going out on a limb, I hope they don't show it on tv: it's too good to be caged in with all the usual crap.
