This CD strikes me as stupid good. where by 'stupid' I mean intelligent, warm, subtle, varied, funky. In particular the track "Honey" is a long form masterpiece -- the sort of thing I wish Carl Craig was still doing. It starts out with a looped, syncopated 4 bar loop that is instantly memorable, and slowly builds up into an elegant dancefloor burner. Towards the middle an offbeat one-note acid squawk starts that roughs things up in just the right way. But the star of the show is that one loop, which sounds like it's run through 10 different filters and effects, that all get tweaked constantly to keep it fresh. The other tracks are all over the place, from dubby to beatless ambient, but always there's a ton of fine detail work to keep things interesting and the sort of undefinable warmth I'd kill to be able to put into tracks.
