Not sure what you mean by "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Are you saying musicians should never perform material composed by others? That would eliminate quite a lot of music from the world. A cover is a pretty time honored tradition.
As to the version itself, I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. It was close but I thought it needed a little something extra to really make it a great version.
