I saw Ken Ishii with Derrick May and Derrick Carter in Chicago a few years back in a high school gym. Surreal setting...
His set stradled the beginning of Derrick Carter's so I missed the end of his set. His mixing was not spectacular, but I got the impression he had trouble hearing (it was in a high school gym). His track selection was top notch though. Derrick May had none of the same problems - his set was awfully tight. I wouldn't compare their DJ styles - I think they're very different. Derrick May is extremely creative and Ken Ishii was pretty straightforward (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). I would definitely go out of my way to see him again though. It's been almost three years and I would like to see him in a proper setting.
