Detroit Sound Conservancy 2014 Conference Call For Proposals CONSERVING SOUNDS: TELLING STORIES First Annual Detroit Sound Conservancy Conference on Detroit Music
The Detroit Sound Conservancy in association with the Detroit Public Library invites proposals for papers, panels, and workshops for our first annual conference on Detroit music to be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Detroit Public Library in Detroit, Michigan. Proposal deadline: February 28, 2014 We invite scholars, writers, and journalists of Detroit music, broadly conceived, to submit imaginative papers and panel discussions. We also invite sound activists of all stripes to submit proposals for workshops related to advancing the Detroit Sound Conservancy's goal of conserving Detroit sounds and telling Detroit stories. The conference's goal is to increase knowledge of Detroit's vast musical legacy through education and reflection. The presenters and panelists are encouraged to explore a wide range of topics that impact the cultural work of urban sound and the roles of writers and researchers in documenting this city's music. Potential panel and paper topics include genre, labor, race, class, journalism and music criticism, politics, and tourism. The conference will gather scholars, writers, journalists, and sound activists dedicated to advancing the goal of preserving Detroit sounds and telling Detroit stories.
