I bring this up here, because Fat Freddy's Drop played one of the best
live band sets at DEMF, and I know they have a lot of friends in the
Detroit scene.

When you think about Detroit's relationship with music, it's always
been welcoming and enthusiastic about great music no matter where it
comes from.

It's a sign of how long the 313 list has been running that there are
more obituaries than there were in the 1990s. It was a shock to the
people on the list when Laura Gavoor died, because the Detroit scene
was relatively young. We all getting old, and it's important to look
forward, but music and culture are embedded in history. When we lose
people we need to mourn, but also celebrate their contributions.
