I picked up that Deep Chord CD (thanks Rob!) last week after all the discussion on the list. To be honest I was quite disappointed - it sounds to me like Basic Channel by numbers. In fact my girlfriend's words summed it up nicely - 'like Maurizio but without the soul; they've missed the point'...
It's not unpleasant or anything, it just sounds like it's been carefully engineered to sound deliberately dirty and lo-fi, but still has a very clean/digital sound overall. Maybe that has something to do with the CD, but compared with (eg) the Basic Channel CD it just doesn't have the same warmth... Not bad, just nothing new whatsoever, IMHO... Cheers, Tom
