I had a pleasure of hearing both of them on the same party this friday.
Richies set was kind of boring, technically good, with FX, 909 & final
scratch, but the music was nothing more than a 2 hour assault of drums,
with not much else. It was not even like the music on first 2/3 of DE9
mix cd but more drumcode like pounding.
But Jeff was incredible. Started with Kraftwerk - It's more fun to
compute and at this time I had this feeling that it was gona be an
incredible set :) than he dropped Jaguar, some stuff of Every dog has
it's day and more funky melodic techno like that. He slowly got harder
and did 2 solos on the 909 (even his 909 programing was so much funkier
than Richies banging). His mixing was tight and fast with more tricks
than I'm used from him, and in only 2 hours he took us through an
incredible journey through electronic music, with classics like Strings
Of Life (it was sad seeing no sign of recognition on the faces of all
the ravers), and the original disco/house classic You make me feel
(mighty real). All in all this was probably the best set I've heard in
my life.
