Also check out Wayne State press cuz they print books on similar topics all
the time. And for music itself, Tribe Records (and the band Tribe) recently
reissued an amazing double collection on Soul Jazz called "Message From the
Tribe" featuring McKinney, Belgrave, Harrison, Ranelin and others. Oh, and
Hefty Records also reissued two Phil Ranelin records that feature some of
the same artists. In case y'all don't know, Tribe was kinda the Detroit
equivalent to AACM in Chicago and Strata East in NYC in the '70s.
Actually, about two or three weeks before Harold McKinney died, Tribe had a
reunion on W. Kim Heron's program on WDET. I think it may have been
McKinney's last performance.
