FABRIC TO STOP ESSO Fabric's Stop Esso benefit on Thursday September 6 will feature DJ sets from New Order's Bernard Sumner, Primal Scream's Mani and Richard Fearless, muzikweekly can exclusively reveal. Other DJs and live acts already scheduled to perform gratis across three rooms include Swayzak, Stanton Warriors, Zero 7, Circulation, Colin Dale, James Lavelle, Howie B, film directors Chris Cunningham (who will also supply visuals) and Harmony Korine, Trevor Rockliffe, Silicone Soul and Arthur Baker. The event is in support of the campaign organised by Greenpeace, Friends Of The Earth and pressure group People & Planet. They have instigated a boycott against Esso and aim to prise apart its relationship with dunderhead US prez George W Bush. "It wasn't hard to decide on becoming involved in this," Mani told muzikweekly. "It's an issue we should all be concerned with. It's going to be a wicked party." Mani, Sumner and Fearless will all play in the third room, hosted by Dazed & Confused magazine. In a statement the Stop Esso organisers said, "The Kyoto Protocol is only a step towards stabilising the world's climate. But it is a vital one. No country has the right to declare it dead and condemn us all to the nightmare of global warming." The event runs from 10pm-4am and costs £10.
