www.soulfuldetroit.com, just launched today, is an in-depth look at the many
buildings that housed the sound of soul coming from detroit in the 60's. it
includes motown, but also the many tiny labels that are probably lost in
memory to but a few.

i found this site cool for a few reasons. in relation to "313" or techno, i
think many people think of planet e, plus8/minus, transmat, ur...when they
think of detroit techno. i think the potential for a site like
soulfuldetroit, including all the tiny detroit techno labels, is certainly
there. also, i like the fact that the music is tied into the physical city
by this site, through the inclusion of the actual buildings and maps. a
final note of interest is that one of the site's authors, david from
glasgow, is very similar to the technotourists in his deveotion to, &
willingness to travel for a particular brand of music. perhaps you all
should have an intergenerational meeting of soul & techno tourists!

& if the site's design seems a bit familiar, it's because it was done by
lowell boileau of fabulous ruins of detroit fame.
