FOURIER TRANSFORMATIONS
SENSE
(Aural Industries/Inertia)
4 out of 5 stars

Melbourne based Sense can proudly join a vast array of local producers who prove you need not look overseas for quality electronica. With a distinct knack for creating slowly rising and layered melodies his tracks sit on the more ambient/down-tempo side of the fence. Fourier Transformations opens with a bit of an epically produced swirly piece of electronica. Held together with a dark bass melody the beats are frantically twisted and skittery while orchestral like snyths often seep out of the track. 'All Around Me' takes on a more minimal feel with a warm groove and occasional electronic stabs. This album displays a fullness of sound and doesn't go for the more playful poppy tunes many of Sense's contemporaries opt for. Sense has ability to slowly build up the track and then just as slowly take it apart, layer by layer. Towards the end of the CD Sense shows some of his dance floor sensibilities. A subtle take on techno with dark droning synths and child like vibes. It gets all complex and schitzo again before lush ambience rounds it out. An excellent release. - Anton Borsch
