i liked what sasha and digweed did with the State Fairgrounds facility when they
played detroit in April. it's a fairly large, cavernous place. but they added a
few things
that made it an enjoyable place for the event (hanging globes from the ceiling,
confetti of some sort on the floor, the venue seemed super clean, etc).
the State Fairgronds has plenty of room for dancing, seating all around, ample
bathrooms, and a small food court.
i don't think richie could fill it as full as S&D did, even during DEMF
weekend.
if he had his party someplace of that size (capacity of like 3 or 4 thousand
with room to dance?)
everyone could've gotten into Control at midnight but then most people would've
left
by 6 or 7 or earlier and the few hundred still there from 7 to end would've
felt dwarfed by
the venue (if they could think at all). and richie's events lose a lot when
they move to larger venues. if detroit gets any more richie parties (has he/is
he moving to nyc?),
they'll likely still be downtown at the nasty, dirty leland city club with
everyone packed in like sardines. so it goes...
