ARTIST: TECHNASIA TITLE: RECREATIONS LABEL: TECHNASIA DISTRIBUTION: FORMAT: CD / LP CAT.NO. TA102CD RELEASE DATE: 15 NOVEMBER 2002
Technasia are the transglobal pairing of Amil Khan (Hong Kong) and Charles Siegling (Paris). You may already know or have heard several of the tracks on this album in their original versions, which have become classic dancefloor cuts across the globe. Tracks such as "Force", "Hydra", and "Evergreen", are clear examples, with DJs such as Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Hell, Sven Vath and Laurent Garnier hammering them. Recreations is a remix album of some of Technasia finest work. Charles & Amil deliver their reworkings of "Force" with the smoothest tech-house on 'Technasia Arpeggio mix', the funky 'Technasia Reprise mix', along side the tougher 'Evergreen' (Technasia Remix). Besides this fellow Technasia fans Funk D' Void (Soma), Claude Young (Deta), John Tejada (Pallette), and Brazil's Renato Cohen (aka Level 202, Noise Music, Sao Paulo) adding their own unique interpretations. Technasia's previous album, "Future Mix", which was released at the end of last year, received massive critical acclaim and considerable commercial success. Further success soon followed, at the Musik Und Maschine awards in Berlin (2001), where Technasia took three accolades (including "Best Album", for Future Mix) as voted for by techno and electronic luminaries around the world. So as you will hear, Technasia's impeccable pedigree is not based on over-rated hype. The largest explanation for the group's considerable popularity has to be their production talents evident in their unique sound. Taking cues from influences as diverse as Coil, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Depeche Mode, as well as more conventional, house / techno producers, Technasia have carved a niche for themselves amidst a glut of bland tech-house. With an almost trademark knack of incorporating melody into their work (Melody!? Techno!? Whaaaaaaat!!??), and a polished sheen to even their most kicking of tunes, there is a remarkable amount of cross-over potential to their work. This year has seen Charles Siegling's DJ talents rise to the forefront of international acclaim. His "Plus" mix CD released December 2001, which was recorded live at Club Orange in Beijing, has increased the standard of DJ mix CDs. Charles blazes through 31 tracks of hi-tek funk with dextrous turntable skills that give the likes of Dave Clarke a run for their money. His DJ appearances have become sought after worldwide. Besides an incredible album Technasia are proud to announce that "Recreations" will be in the Enhanced Audio/Video CD format. Along with the cracking audio tracks (as featured on the promo copies) the final Enhanced CD will feature the much anticipated "Force" video specially created for the avid Technasia fans! The video is directed by a new talented Hong Kong art video director - Jason Pelmet. With Hong Kong cinema having a huge impact on the global cinema market, Jason puts forward a mystical journey into imageries in tune with the culturally rich vibrant city of Hong Kong. Combining quality techno with striking visuals, "Recreations" out soon on Technasia. CD Tracklisting 1- CROSSWALK (FUNK D'VOID REMIX) The Funk D'Void reworking sticks to the electroey momentum of the original, and usues some trademark deep pads to create an almost laidback mood. Midway through, the killer riff from the original drops in and takes the track to the next level, but Lars keeps the tone relatively relaxed. 2- EVERGREEN (JOHN TEJADA REMIX) Mr Tejada retains the padding tribal drums of the original track, but reworks the melodic aspects to great effect - adding some of his own chord changes to give the track a suitably original flavour, but still with enough kick for the floor. 3- FORCE (TECHNASIA REPRISE) Technasia's most popular tune to date gets a re-jig from the lads themselves. A moody piano weaves its way through the original's catchy hook, whilst Charles' distinct vocal is used sparingly. The rhythm section is completely revamped for a more electro flavour. 4- FUTURE MIX (TECHNASIA PREMONITION MIX) How do Technasia do it? Their tracks are so damn infectious, with hooks aplenty. This track's a great example of that. 'Future Mix' is given an overhaul that keeps all of the original's good qualities, but looks at it from a new angle - surely what good remixing is all about. 5- EVERGREEN (TECHNASIA REMIX) 'Evergreen' is given a once over with a straight up techno dynamic that's geared for the floor. The tinny, linear beats the have become a key feature of their productions betray a love of early Chicago house, particularly the Dancemania label, and this is evident in this pacey remix. 6- FORCE (TECHNASIA ARPEGGIO) This version makes full use of the Sumner-esque vocal, combined with some high-end keys that paint over the original chord-driven hook. 7- MILLENNIUMS (THE UNKNOWN) A new track that takes the listener through a lush, swirling synthesized soundscape. Beatless, and extremely atmospheric 8- THE AWAKENING (TECHNASIA RISE MIX) As the title suggests, this one builds slowly over the course of the track - implementing the rhythmical template of the original with some electro flavouring, before giving way to that killer riff. 9- HYDRA (RENATO COHEN REMIX) A clap-happy remix from the Brazillian that really piles on the percussion. Floor-friendly as you like, Cohen works recognisable elements around a newly reconstructed. 10- FORCE (A CLAUDE YOUNG RECONSTRUCTION) Claude opts for a complete rejig of the original, kicking things off with some completely new piano work, then sprinkling a fractured vocal into the mix. This is a radically different interpretation of Technasia's biggest hit, and a truly inspired one. 11- FORCE (TECHNASIA FINAL) 'Force' comes back to take a final bow. ------------------------------------------------------- ARTIST: VARIOUS (MIXED BY AMIL KHAN) TITLE: PLUS LABEL: TECHNASIA DISTRIBUTION: INTEGRALE MUZIQUE (UK) FORMAT: CD RELEASE DATE: INCLUDING TRACKS BY TECHNASIA, ST GERMAIN, JOHN TEJADA, THE YOUNGSTERS, OSCAR MULERO, NICK HOLDER, FABRICE LIG, STEVE RACHMAD.
