This came up not so long ago, but the general agreement was:

Slightly soapy, lukewarm water, rinsed gently will do the job pretty well.
This has best results in my experience. For some things lighter fuel's OK,
but for sticky crap - like the Irn Bru I had on a Donald Byrd LP - soapy
water is superior. Just make sure it's not too hot, obviously. Commercial
record cleaning fluid is usually just cleaner lighter fuel, and far too
expensive. You can apparently get mini hoover things which do the job best,
but I wouldn't get that anal.
