shit, i guess i havent seen too much of this "closed shop" type thing. i can think of at least 4 people from the western PA/ohio techno scenes alone (thats where i live) who have released records on detroit labels, and big ones at that. i mean im sure some good ol' boy mentality exists, but its like that in every music scene.
