MODE: FASHION vs. MUSIC
PRESENTED BY AMERICAN APPAREL
Unveiling of the Movement Commemorative Painting
By Kenjii

On Thursday, May 22nd, High Tech Soul kicks off Festival Weekend festivities
with a premiere fashion and music celebration. “MODE” will present a
chronological journey of musical genres and their parallels with fashion
trends.

DJs for the evening will include Defiant, Brad Hales, Munk and Jezeus. The
event will feature clothes from Detroit Area boutiques and clothing designed
by local area artists Emily & Audra and Eugene Paul.

The visual presentation will include projections by Bob Anderson. Anderson,
born and raised in the Detroit Area and currently residing in Hamtramck, is
a filmmaker and exhibiting artist whose work with film, gallery and museum
installations, and large site-specific public projections has garnered him
international attention. He has recently exhibited work in Zurich,
Switzerland, and is currently working on a project with the National Gallery
in Prague of the Czech Republic. Anderson's projections will also be
featured on the facade of the Ford Auditorium building during the Festival
weekend.

Doors open at 8pm with complimentary drinks served until the 10pm start
time.

Immediately after the show, High Tech Soul will be unveiling the official
Movement 2003 Commemorative painting by local illustrator Kenjii.

Rendered in the fashion of a science fiction film backdrop, the Movement
2003 Commemorative painting is a collaborative effort between Kenjji and
Detroit muralist, Roy F. Sproule III. This rich blend of illustration and
oil painting is sure to renew the grand sense of the previous commemorative
piece by Joe Vaughn, not only in its visual impact, but also in its capacity
for exhibition. To add to the skilled craftsmanship, the piece will use
premium printing effects like foil and 5th color plating to enhance the
piece and increase the value of the limited edition prints.

The 2003 Movement Commemorative painting shares a vision of Detroit’s
prominent future. Incorporating a variety of traditional landmarks and
corporate trademarks, the piece illustrates both our community’s movement
throughout history and inherently speaks to the music’s fundamental role in
the perpetual renaissance of Detroit.

5th Ave is located at 2100 Woodward Avenue in the southwest corner of
Comerica Park. For more info contact 5th Downtown at 313-471-2555.

Afterwards, the party moves over to THE LIVING ROOM for “Transmat
Presents...” held every Thursday, upstairs from ENVY. Playing alongside
resident DJ Marcellus Pittman will be special guest Recloose (Planet E,
iK7).

The MODE after-party will be free for Movement Members. The Living Room is
located at 234 W. Larned, Across from the Pontchartrain Hotel.

$10 pre-sale tickets for MODE are available online at:
