Cheers Ryan, that did the trick.  I took the crossfader out and found there
was a couple of spare faders on the panel covering it - I switched it for
these and it sounds great now :)

Try pulling it out (the fader) and spraying some silicone spray/electrical
contact fluid on it.

BTW: I checked the ground too - problem appears to be on the mixer channel -
I've tried on the line in on that channel and don't get no distortion so it
looks like the problem is on the inputs on the left phono channel...  Also
without audio signal (ie nothing playing or on blank grooves) there is no
rumbling...

One channel on my mixer seems to have developed a rumbling sound - does
anyone have any idea what I need to do to fix this?  It is a sh-dx1200 and
it has remained in the same set-up since I originally bought it (ie I'm not
plugging and unplugging cables all the time).  BTW I have verified it is not
down to the turntable or cartridge by switching channels - other channel
works fine!?!
