heres something I've wondered about. when a dj makes a mix cd such as this and features tracks that he/she made or owns the label they were released on or both does that mean that he/she makes out three ways financially - for doing the mix, for licensing the tracks from the label to the mix and for creating the track that's licensed from the label to the mix?

no.

he gets money for doing the mix, through mix-cd sales;
if he licenses the tracks to the mix, he'll have to pay himself, so no extra money there; the creation of the track alone doesn't generate money, sales of the track do, as he's the producer of the track and the owner of the label, i doubt he'll have to pay for the record, and even if that's the case, he's paying himself. the exposure through the mixcd could generate more sales though, or reach an audience not interested in buying vinyl, but willing to pay for a cd.
