I recently bought Pom Pom #8 (I think) and was really caught on the long
track (A side I think) - sort of a techno/electro distorted 303 thing going
on and then weirdy vocals not too dissimilar to the type of background
voices you hear on Theo/Moodyman productions.
How many Pom Pom releases are out there - where do they come from - and
which others are worth picking up?
I love how old school it is. I recall walking into record shops and having
bins of white labels to dig through. No info - no stickers - no track
listing - quite possibly no press info either. Pom Pom just goes all black
with their releases and you have to look at the engraved catalogue number
on the run out to see which one you have.
Just what I like - mysterious faceless techno.
Please don't tell me who is actually making the records if you do know. I
like a bit of ? nowadays - is it just me or does it seem like less and less
producers/DJs are wearing the enigma flag.
Detroit, UR people in particular, seem to be the only ones sticking to it.
Who else is still a mystery?
