While we're on the Nile Rodgers tip, I have to mention my favorite Niles' moment. The apex of rhythm guitar solos on "Come Down" by Material off of 1982's "One Down". This was a visionary combination of talents, including Nile Rodgers, Bill Laswell, Fred Frith, Archie Shep, Eno, and a 14 year old Whitney Houston!

No question these guys are/were genii (Bernard R.I.P.). Interesting though to note that Nile produced Madonna's 'Like A Virgin' - does this make you re-evaluate the song (i.e. it's up there with Bowie's 'Let's Dance', or is it a career blip)?

Kent's absolutely right about C'est Chic. One of my top albums
of all time -- the acme of pop music, at a time when pop music
went through one of its periodic nosedives and was just as bad as
today. One of my favorite unknown tracks is on there --
"Sometimes You Win."

This album struck the right balance between ease and funk,
creative melodies, vocals . . .

And did I mention those basslines??!!
