Salmonella Dub are just a pale imitation of FFD from what I've heard

 um . nowdays yes .

but Salmonella .. are the original NZ Dub band .. the have been doing
it now for about 14 years ..

They really broke a lot of ground in NZ .. and are partly responsible for
the strong wave of live dub / reggae / breaks / drum & bass that is
  coming out of NZ ..

They were responsible for getting people like David Harrow and
Digital out to NZ, to perform and produce music with them .

They were the first non-rock band to Tour Australia and into Europe.

They have done a lot for the music scene in NZ . electronic / dub
Drum & Bass .. the lot .. . but in saying all that .. their sound has
changed into a much more processed hit making sound . .

These boys .. still work as painters . and dishwashers when they
are not touring or producing albums ..

But . truthfully I haven't 'enjoyed' one of there shows in quite a few years .

With such a small scene in NZ .. people support them out of respect
as much as the sound they make . ''

FFD drop has evolved out of Jazz school students and the early
Electronic scene in Wellington NZ . with a strong Pacifican influence

Salmonella . grew out of a junkies rock scene in the very gothic city
   of Christchurch ..

I was listening to Gabba . and happy hardcore. . until I meet the Dubbed
out bass of Salmonella in early 90's and was launched into a new aural realm ..

They did a killer show here last year with Salmonella Dub (who I can't
say I like even half as much). Definitely my favourite live gig of the year.

The Live at the Matterhorn Cd was great though. I'd love to see them
here again, even with a couple of the guys with Recloose would be cool
;-) Geez, they're just across the water, shouldn't be too hard to
organise!!!

They haven't had much impact here in Oz but there was talk of shows in Melb
and Syd. A shame. Typically cynical Aussies are slow to embrace NZ stuff
then reclaim it as their own when it blows up - eg Split Enz. ;)
They have a track Bluey on the Loop compilation - see www.loop.co.nz
Lots of great NZ music at the moment, Tali, Kog Transmissions, Che Fu,
 Scribe...

They have a new album coming (their first Live At The Matterhorn was an
independently issued live CD).

Fitchie: "Live At The Matterhorn was strictly just a straight recording from a live gig with a little bit of editing, but that's mainly how it was pretty
much played. It just sounded good when we listened back to the minidisc, so
we pressed it up. .....

Fat Freddy's are a major favorite here in NZ ..

I have had the opportunity to see them play about a dozen times .. and
each time there is a magic in the air that is often missing from musical
    events ..

amazing soul . deep sounds from the heart ..

my favorite experience was at a small outdoor party.. they played
for about 2 hours .. and really it was one long song .. . not
quite a jam and
not quite a set .. it literally took them 15mins to start ' just
shuffling on stage
    strumming ' humming .. .

the great thing is that they keep you captivated on the tip of
your toes . and
    never let you down ..

.. if you like a downbeat fusion between reggae . dub . jazz and
soul then go
and see Fat Freddy's .. killer
