of the schedule. Also there's a rumour that Frankie Knuckles is going
to anchor the final night of the series later (in August?) but who
really knows for sure.. the schedule is all subject to change...

Chicago SummerDance’s 8th Season Expands With Addition Of Wednesday
Night DJ Series Featuring One of Chicago’s Most Influential DJs,
Derrick Carter.
Legendary local DJ Derrick Carter kicks off the inaugural week of the
new DJ Series at Chicago SummerDance with his
trademark Chicago sound Wednesday, June 23, 2004 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in
the Spirit of Music Garden, 601 S. Michigan Ave. Now in its eighth
season, Chicago SummerDance announced the expansion of the popular
program with the addition of the DJ Series that focuses on the
ever-growing genre of electronic music and celebrates the sounds
of Chicago’s own house music stalwarts. This 10-week long Wednesday
night series runs June 23 - August 25. Special guest DJs to be
announced shortly will join Derrick Carter opening night. Admission is
free.
The DJ Series will feature local and international DJs spinning three
hours of various styles of electronic music including tech-house, drum
and bass, techno, world beat, trance, and locally grown house music.
Unlike the other nights of the Chicago SummerDance program, there will
be no dance lessons offered on Wednesday evenings. Music and dancing on
a 3,500 square foot open-air dancefloor will begin at 6:30 p.m. and go
until 9:30 p.m. weather-permitting.
Organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, Commissioner
Lois Weisberg says, “This new series will add a new dimension to the
magical Chicago SummerDance series. It is enjoyed by a cosmopolitan mix
of participants and spectators of all ages and ethnicities.”
Homegrown talent Derrick Carter, who was born and raised in the western
suburbs of Chicago, kicks off the new DJ Series. His early sets were
rooted in house and seamlessly incorporated old-school disco, soul and
jazz. His style developed into a trademark sound that went on to
influence a new breed of Chicago DJs. He now spends time
in Britain where he’s become a minor celebrity among dance-music
aficionados and runs his record label Classic.
The tentative schedule for the Wednesday night DJ Series is as follows:

July 7 feat. Superjane (Colette, Heather, Lady D)
