Disco vocalist Izora Rhodes Armstead passed away from heart failure last
Thursday, September 16th. She began her
career as a backup vocalist for Sylvester. In 1980, Izora and fellow backing
vocalist Martha Wash recorded an album
as Two Tons O' Fun that became a smash Disco hit reaching #2 on the Billboard
chart and featuring such classic songs
as 'Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven'. The duo recorded again, this time as the
Weather Girls, in 1982 and their single
'It's Raining Men' reached #1 and became one of the biggest Dance hits of the
80's.

Armstead and Wash recorded a total of 3 albums as the Weather Girls before
going separate ways in a friendly split.
15 years ago Izora Armstead Rhodes moved to Germany and there formed a new
version of the Weather Girls in 1994 with
her daughter Dynell Rhodes, one of 11 children. They continued recording and
touring for a number of years.
