This is a much awaited record for me and I'm chomping at the bit to hear it. As one of the older devotees of D-tech on this list, I'm always a little bit surprised by how ignored Dixon has been by other people (many but not all of 'em younger than me) who like the same music as me.
I can't stress enough how important the TD sound is (imo) for Detroit techno from 1995 onwards. You can also see the way a different kind of 'minimalism' - than that which seems to emanate ubiquitously from Cologne and Berlin nowadays - can work. In fact, note that his last LP 'From The Far Future' was actually eventually released on Tresor. My completely partial advice: check, check, check. Put this on your 'don't-miss' list, then listen and learn. As for the blurb, I couldn't help noticing these bits: "Atypical for the city and its clichéd sound. His typically raw musical approach, eccentric as his own personality" .... "Classic sounding Detroit Techno Soul that radiates an unexpected warmth and beauty." Contradicts itself a bit innit?!?!? ;-) (But actually, judging from what I know about Dixon's music those counter-pointing statements are probably both true.) Ken
