Most people aren't DJs and don't think like DJs. All they really think about is, "play something I know, whether it fits in or not."
1. I was playing house and techno in a local lounge (Portland). The request was for the Beastie Boys. That's not a bad idea though it was the wrong time for it. 2. Playing in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot after a Grateful Dead show (we used to set up a sound system there and play one night of every three-night run, lots of fun actually).
