Memo from Alex Bond of PricewaterhouseCoopers -------------------- Start of message text --------------------
Gil's dad was the first ever black professional player on these shores (I think) He played for Celtic. My Grandad says he was an inside right, and a pretty handy one at that, he remembers him well. Cool family.........! Of course, you could also interpret it to mean something about other events of the time. Gil Scott-Heron's father, Giles, was from Jamaica originally and was a renowed football (er, soccer) player in Canada, the US and the UK. He played for the Detroit Corinthians in the early 1950s. Sadly, Gil himself was sentenced to a serious jail term after not sticking with a rehab agreement last November. Not surprisingly, this all started with a bust "on sus" as they say in the UK. Whatever else you can say about jail, it's not a place to get well, but that is where the judge felt he had to go, and maybe that was the least bad of several very serious alternatives. All I can say is it's a blessing to this tired old world to have someone of his talent still going, and let's hope we see him soon, better and happier and more ready to raise his voice again. You can tell from his interviews that he's still alert and as free a thinker as ever. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,357680,00.html http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0129/gray.php http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/story/0,3604,593501,00.html http://www.canongate.net/payback/pbp.taf?_n=4 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------- End of message text -------------------- This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
