Melodies & Memories on Gratiot (a few miles south of RT).
Neptune in Royal Oak is good for indie and some IDM.
The Record Collector in Ferndale is great for retro vinyl as is Car City records on Harper near 8 mile way over on the east side. WAY down in Wyandotte used to be a very odd, but cool store called Sprockets; they had every Ozric Tentacles CD in existence as well as tons of off the wall 70s stuff - almost nothing you'd think of as "rent paying" stock in the store.
Stormy Records (ran by Windy & Carl) in Dearborn is fun - lots of indie stuff.
East Alley Records in Rochester has a good rep, but I've never been there. It really is hard to beat RT for 313 related items.

Hey All,

I was born and raised in 313, but have since moved away. When I was home
visiting in December last year, the buzz I got was that there were really
only a few record stores, and two of them were the Recordtime stores I went
to. While I thought they were ok, I'm looking for something even more
local/independent if possible. Can anyone help? I'm usually based near
Warren & Wyoming but will travel anywhere in Metro Detroit to shop! Looking
for all types of music, so recommendations by genre are greatly appreciated.
Will be home for DEMF, so if there are any ad-hoc stores that pop up around
that time please let me know.
