Re: Who discovered the 'Acid House' squiggle on the TB303? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- I always thought it was Spanky and Pierre but nope, it was a UK band called Section 25 on Factory Records (New Order,Joy Division,Happy Mondays etc). They were one of the first people in the UK to buy one (the TB 303 was only available to buy between 1982 and 1983 - only 20,000 were made!). Anyway - just before Section 25 went on a major North American tour they purchased a 303, did a bit of 'tweaking', found the squiggle and incorporated it into their live set - specifically 'Looking from a Hilltop' (one of Derrick May and Juan Atkins all time favourite tracks, and a massive Paradise Garage and Warehouse favourite) and 'Beating Heart' which had an extended remix made using the 303 in 1983! Section 25 toured the States extensively between 1983 and 1985 specifically Chicago, Detroit and New York showcasing this new sound and tracks from these dates can be heard on their 'Deus Ex Machina' live CD. The version of 'Hilltop' sounds totally Acid House - they're using an 808, 303 and a Juno 106 which became a standard Acid set-up by the Chicago crew. So this story about the 'squiggle' being discovered in Pierre/Spank's bedroom is totally blown out of the water!
