tp is not the only person upset at the promoters of the krs-1 "stop the violence" [sic] show. after taking your ticket (no stub left for proof, of course) you see the schedule which read 3am (can't remember name) opening up for KRS-1 4am next performer
so, IF he showed up, he would have been on stage for less than one hour, most likely for 1/2 hour. also, sound system in main room was down for about 45 minutes while someone stood on stage yelling "check.check.check" over & over until my head was pounding. third, some dude got shot in the leg/ankle. . .i left about 1:15, not too happy. did anyone on this list stay? did he show? i just had the feeling of "sucker" stamped on my head. . . but, all was made better, saturday night in pittsburgh. (sorry, i missed clark) the kooky scientist was funky, john acquaviva was ON, and richie was at his sadistic, manipulative, HARDEST best. it was one of those nights that had that "good rave" feeling of a communal experience...may sound cheesy, but a couple years ago, almost every one i went to had that feeling that you didn't just party your ass off, but you had had an _experience_ with everyone else there. ya know, you're tired as hell, legs of jelly, but something keeps moving. everyone was dancing, sure there were drugs, but i didn't have that icky feeling that everyone was there to just get off, forget the music. the phyrl crew did a wonderful job in recreating a "detroit" feeling in their space with the black plus8 plastic, lighting, & visuals. i felt at home! also, much respect for the "no glow sticks allowed" signs, although later in the night someone snuck some in. all in all, one of those nights you smile about when you think about it & "everything is techno" for a while afterwards. lastly, made it back to the d to catch yusef lateef monday night & it was incredible. abstract, innovative, soulful. it was worth sittin through the rain for. you gotta love the jazz fest. one last thing-if you haven't been there recently, check out motormouthmagazine.com for a list/schedule of performers on the electronica stage at the dally in the alley this saturday, sept. 11. (from 4-10:30) the performances will be webcasted @ our site, raveworld.net, & theplayground.com kelli
