DJing (especially with Derrick) can definitely show your true colors.
It represents your tastes and your individual fomula for an hour
or so of music. bring it up, bring it down, bring it back up, etc. blah
blah blah.
Unfortunately the true colors we saw werent so flash. From reading what you
said below sounds like you got a much classier selection. I envy you. Theres
no doubt of May's mixing skill but his track selection here left so much to
be desired. Theres no point in trying to reconcile our different experiences
but if you want a fuller explanation of why i was disapointed check my
review at the web site:

thats why i referred people to the music - which cant be faulted

its very detailed
I've seen Derrick only once but it truly elightened me on how
a DJ set could sound. He represented his own Detroit sound so well.
He played some Hood (Envy), Mills (Skin Deep and Sirens), Saunderson
(Veliocity Funk)
and others that were in that same vein (even some nice jackin Chicago
house).
I was hopin he'd play "Wiggin" but no luck. It wasn't even
what he played, it was how he played. Constantly grimacing in emotion at
the sound of his
knob twiddling (if youv'e seen him play: you know). He knew exactly what
he was
doing, working that fader like a hyperactive child. My point is that he
represented HIS sound
and definitely the Detroit sound by DJing. I know he schooled a lot of
people in the true
sound of Detroit. Something that needs to happen a lot more often in
this city.

The Mayday Mix IMO does not do total justice to his skills as a DJ.
Are there any other mix CDs available?
