like I said a few weeks ago - DEMF was "THE" Detroit Electronic Music Festival up until 2003. After 2003 THE Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and all that it implied, ceased to exist.
The shift in focus is reflected in the name It's not THE Detroit Electronic Music Festival (meaning the festival that celebrates Detroit) it's now Movement: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival = the electronic music festival that just so happens to take place in Detroit you forgot the apostrophe "s" at the end of Detroit I'm not bothering to have a word with anyone unless they mistake DEMF (2000-2002) and Paxahau's version of Movement (2006 and onward) as being the same event It's this lineage of inheritance that gets everyone's undies in a bunch when they see the line-ups and get bummed out the comparison is made - thinking that DEMF and Movement are one in the same they aren't on a side note I just found this article http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1444353/20010607/craig_carl.jhtml and the quote "With PCM selecting DJs for DEMF 2002, we're likely to see names like Paul Oakenfold and Moby on the lineup, and that is not what underground electronic music is about," said DJ Legal Alien, who performed at this year's DEMF. Part of what has made the festival so special was that the public was exposed to DJs who have true respect in the electronic-music community." Rob Theakston, a Detroit DJ who has worked behind the scenes at the festival, expressed the "big fear that next year's lineup will manifest itself as one giant corporate booger, rather than expose the diversity of electronic music and its influence in all genres." LOL! Seems even PCM and all their bogeymen didn't do what Paxahau has done.
