Are you aware if there are plans to extend cockpit functionality?

Yes, the new Cockpit UI is in its infancy, and it currently only does Administration of the server, not the database content.  We are still working on getting all parts of the UI to ReactJS.  Once we get the UI into a state we are happy with we will then be looking into doing a LDAP Browser/Editor.  To be honest it could be a year from now until it gets done (hopefully sooner), but until then all there is for user management are the tools that William previously mentioned.

As I'm aware today, you can't manage data in backends via cockpit - cockpit just manages the configuration and admin aspects.

Mark will probably comment with more details here,
