^^^ This is an important tip. ^^^

It is often the case during dist-upgrades (especially unconventional 
ones) that you need to run apt-get dist-upgrade several times before all 
the changes go through. Also, this is one of the few times where 
rebooting *may* be necessary before you see all the changes. Advanced 
users will know that it is possible to re-initialise all services on a 
running Debian system, but quite frankly it may be easier for newbies to 
reboot. It is really important to re-run apt-get until it tells you that 
all packages are the latest versions (it's OK for some packages to held 
back) before rebooting. _Never_ attempt to reboot a potentially broken 
system.
