In my ~/.bash_profile file I have a line that sets my pager. It looks
like this:
export PAGER=less

I have my own custom .bashrc and .bash_profile files that I use on all
of my machines so you may or may not have this option.  In any event,
you can override the system defaults in these files.

The system defaults may reside in:
~ /etc/environment

The default bashrc and profile files reside in /etc/skel, if you need to
copy over the defaults again.
