I installed aubio as in the tutorial, without having to deinstall
anything.  I suppose it has to do with lenny - living in the cutting edge
is not without its problems.

I tend to backport packages rather than to move to lenny before Free's
lenny repository is built.  I'll stick to etch until that time.
