Try running 

        venti/read 8f5e7e8bd708abb329d97c1773cac871b5daabcb

I suspect that flfmt is not connecting to the venti server
that uses the "arenas" file but rather to some other
server on the network.  If that's the case, you need
to either set $venti or give flfmt the -h option.
