i did know that, but that requires more complicated
explaination, and only works on macs.

in case it wasn't clear enough the first time, my point
was that if your storage is fancy enough to be snapshotted,
you can do a system-image backup.  the system doesn't
need to have the capability.  in fact, you don't care what
system you've got.

and as long as your drive isn't soldered to the mb, your storage
is fancy enough.  after that we're just arguing over convienience.
