but just occasionally i pine for the clarity of here-files-as-templates. no need to quote quotes. in the past i've contemplated adding a new type of quote to the shell, consisting of a bunch of lines all starting with some special character. that way they read nicely, and nest nicely too. echo \ »ls -l »echo \ »»who's askin' which with normal quoting rules would be echo 'ls -l echo ''who''''s askin''''''' which isn't quite so readable.
