Hey, I work at the dump and see so much stuff that is very usable but 
folks don't want to be bothered.  I give our local Freecycle link to 
anyone who is interested and feel good that a certain amount of stuff 
has another life.
I personally have been given stuff while at work; just before the item 
was about to be thrown out.  I was given beautiful 4' tall pine curio 
cabinet (with curved glass) that only needed cleaning, a huge china 
hutch, about 5' wide by 6' tall that needed a corner down on the 
bottom repaired, many dog crates (I raise dogs), patio furniture....
There is a reason I drive a truck!
