My Compaq Persario SR2010nx, 120gb(system drive) harddrive just
failed. In this computer I also have a Maxtor 40gb(data drive)
installed as a data drive. Compag sent me a replacement harddrive
(120gb), which I installed. During the install process, I made a fatal
error. I left the 40gb harddrive connected when I did the system
recovery and the 120gb and the 40gb drive were both reformatted. Oh
well.

I decided to use the new 120gb drive as my data drive(since Windows
XP installed on the 40gb drive). The drives are now installed as NTFS
and the 120gb drive has one(1) partition. The 40gb drive has 2(two)
partitions, system and recovery.

On the 120gb, I created a folder and several sub-folder to hold my
mp3 data. After amassing 5.5gb's of data in one folder, my thought was
to break this data down into other smaller folders. Now for my problem.

When I tried to MOVE, COPY or DELETE files over 5,000mb, the files
will/do not move and no error message is displayed. This only happens
on the 120gb drives and in the folders that I created. Everything
seems fine on the system drive, in all folders. The download path on
the data drive is "G:\DOCUMENTS AND
SETTINGS\COMPAG_OWNER\MY_DOCUMENTS\MY MUSIC\MUSIC DOWNLOADS". If I try
to select a group of files, right click, cut, and then paste to another
location, nothing happens. During a drag and drop, the move option is
grayed out and again, nothing happens.

My current workaround is to burn the files to my CD/dvd drive and
copy or move back from that location. For deletions I delete the
entire music download folder, with its contents and re-create it.
Clumbersome, but the only way I can get it to work.

   Help, help, help. Thanks

Ben
