I've never used either of those devices, or even "any" fingerprint security device, but here's how I think they work: They are both USB devices. They come with a cd to install them onto your pc or laptop. After they are installed you can unplug them and only need plug them in when you want to access your computer. Basically, when you boot your pc, or try to access a particular external drive, or even a particular folder that you've locked, you'll be prompted to touch your finger to the pad. When it recognizes your print as one that you've programmed into it - you'll get access.
I know the Eikon one allows you to lock particular folders, but not sure about the other one.
