Well, there shouldn't be any problems doing the upgrade.  If your work 
"requires" it... you don't have much choice.
I prefer not to upgrade Microsoft products unless there's a really 
compelling reason to do so.  I don't think IE8 offers any major 
improvements over IE7 - including any major security improvements.
I usually feel that if things are working fine... why upgrade.
But, as I said, IE8 should work fine with Vista.
