Recently my mom bought a new laptop (HP ENVY, 15.6" diagonal, 8GB Memory, 750 GB HD, and m6-1225dx and is also a touch screen) with Windows 8 already installed. At first, my mom had a lot of trouble adjusting to the differences between Windows 8 and Windows 7. She prefers to use the mouse to operate her computer. She has mostly gotten used to the changes. There are a few more things that need to be dealt with. Can anyone help us please?
First of all, my mom has had trouble with the email. When she had Windows Live on the computer that had Windows 7, she was able to make as many folders in her email account as she wanted to and make as many rules as she wanted to concerning what passed as nonjunk mail. She also could look at the headings of each of her emails without having to also look at the body of any of them. Also she usually was able to clearly see the whole title of the headings of each of her emails without having to extrapolate for the rest of the headings with the cursor. She has Buckeye Cable as her internet provider. For some reason, my mom can't do any of these things with the email program that came with the new computer. She tried to install the original email program that she had on her old computer but the installation never happened or did not happen the way it did on her old computer. Also when she tries to delete or even just look at some of her emails, some of her emails get deleted without her trying to delete them. In other words, the email program or the computer is deleting the email on its own. Another area of concerning involves network printing. The nice thing with the new printer (Brother is that it will send data to her printer wirelessly as long as the old computer and printer is on. She tends to have a problem when she only wants to print certain pages of a document that is on a website. There are a lot of times when the printer ends up printing the whole document instead. For example, my mom will have the printer print pages 8 to 14 of a 20-page document but instead of getting just those pages, she gets all 20 pages. Thanks. ------------------------------------ If you have any questions or problems with any aspect of this site, please feel free to contact me directly [email protected] Please do not post personal issues directly to the group.
