That 2.6Ghz processor on Amazon will physically "fit" your mobo, but I'm not sure your BIOS will support it. I found the specs of your mobo here: http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4006181R/4006181Rnv.shtml http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4006181R/4006181Rsp2.shtml And it seems to say the max processor speed supported is the dual core 2.0 Ghz. So, unless Gateway or Intel (it's an Intel mobo) provide a BIOS update it would be a big gamble to buy the chip and have it maybe not recognized. If you can return it for a refund - no problem. The latest BIOS update on the Gateway site is dated July 2010, see here: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2940 So you can check your BIOS version with the version listed there. If the one on the website is newer than yours you can flash it. Somewhere it should tell you the specs of the new BIOS, but I couldn't see it anywhere on the web site. When you download the BIOS file there may be a "read me" file that will tell you what processors the new BIOS will support before you do the flash.
As for the fan... doesn't that box on Amazon come with a fan and heatsink? If not, you can try it with your old fan - if it overheats just buy a a new fan.
