The idea is that the drive you have is intended for distribution, and
loading the tables onto a faster disk array. You could in theory do
lookups from a single disk, but this will be to slow for most uses (such
as cracking real life traffic)

I recommend that you spread the tables out over a few disks, AND IF IN
DOUBT ASK FIRST. I have tried to make these tools as safe as possible to
use, but since the tables are written to raw block devices there is
always a danger of unintentional data loss.
