If standards exist, they might get used. If they don't exist, chord
notation will still get created and used, but with no consistency between
the different programs. The same might be said about any facet of notation
in addition to chords. If something is lacking, it will still be created if
it is needed -- just not in a standard manner. Seems like it would be
easier to document a standard than to leave it wide open for different
implementations in different programs.

I think the attempt to standardize chord notation is laudable, but I'm
still not sure whether it's a good idea or not - or even if it's
possible at all. We've already discussed the lack of standardisation in
the field of "standard notation", but the rules for tadpoles are
extremely rigid compared to the ones for hord notation.
